6th GRADE FIELD TRIP

6th grade is planning two field trips for the end of the school year. Qualification for both trips will be based on cumulative GPA, attendance, merits, extensions, and suspension. One trip is to Nickelodeon Universe @ American Dream Mall (New Jersey) on Tuesday, June 21st. The second trip is a Field Day at Prospect Park on Thursday, June 23rd. Communication will be sent personally to families of students who qualify for the trips. Permission slips will go home to eligible scholars on June 6th. 7th GRADE FIELD TRIP

Eligible 7th grade students will visit Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey on Tuesday, June 21 (departing BRMS at 7:30 a.m. and returning approximately 5:00-5:30 p.m.). Eligible students received permission slips on Tuesday, May 31st. Students will be able to appeal for a spot on the trip if they didn’t initially qualify. Price per student is $44 (if students/families have a financial hardship, we will subsidize their ticket). Please contact Ms. Dawkins or Mr. Jose with any questions.

8th GRADE FIELD TRIPS

Because the 8th grade team is currently planning a Prom on June 10th, an in-person Graduation June 22nd, as well as a Post-Graduation Celebration Caravan on June 23rd, 8th grade will not have a grade-wide field trip. However, up to 60 scholars will earn small group field trips for ending the year strong, while those who do not earn that above-and-beyond experience will still have a final week celebration in school with friends on the same day. Details below:

Locations: In small groups of 7-8 students, 8th graders who earn a special trip the final week will be choosing their locations and activities as a group to personalize the experience, so locations will vary. All communication will go home personally to parents of each member of each group.

Date: Tuesday, June 21st during school hours (might end after school hours due to the half-day, but if so that will be communicated and require parent permission to be granted).

Necessary qualifications: Top 60 merit-earning students (look at weekly High School Ready Reports!) will qualify for a special small-group trip as long as they are not: tardy more than once between Monday, May 23rd and Tuesday, June 14th, absent without a doctor’s note establishing need for full day absence during that time, missing multiple homework assignments during that time, and engaging in excessive negative interactions with peers during that time (this will be communicated to student and family if student is struggling with this prior to final disqualification).

8th Grade Prom will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, June 10th. This is also an offsite event located at Naomi’s Suite (8926 Avenue D, Brooklyn, NY 11236

The 8th Grade Art Show will be held from 4-7 p.m. on  Thursday, May 19th. This is an offsite event located at the Brooklyn Art Cave (897 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11206). All are welcome—come check out creative, thoughtful explorations of identity from our 8th grade artists!
