It’s that time of year again! This letter serves to inform you about an exciting month-long event taking place at AF Brownsville Middle School during October: ROCKtober! We will have different themed days throughout the month, calendared below.
October 1: Pajama Day: Students wear their school appropriate pajamas to school with close-toed shoes! (NOTE: no dresses; any shorts need to be below the knees both when standing and sitting down; no fitted or revealing clothing; no leggings unless something is worn over them that goes below the knees both when standing and sitting down; no crop tops, spaghetti straps, or tank tops)
October 4: Orange Mask Day: Students should be in full uniform, wearing an orange mask.
October 5: Sports Day: Students may wear their favorite sports jersey, with black and any color sneaker/shoes as long as they are closed-toes.
October 6: ROCKtober Surprise Wednesdays: Students should be in full uniform. There will be small surprises each day in school provided by staff.
October 7: Wacky Tacky Day: Students are allowed to wear any article of clothing (mix and match), so long it is not offensive to others
October 8: Twin Day: Students can dress up as any other person in the school (staff member or peer). Students are not limited to just one other person, they can dress in triplets, quadruplets, etc.
October 12: Shine Bright Like a Diamond Day: Students are expected to be in full uniform, wearing shiny/ bright sunglasses of their choice.
October 13: ROCKtober Surprise Wednesdays: Students should be in full uniform. There will be small surprises each day in school provided by staff.
October 14: Crazy Socks Day: Students should be in full uniform except wearing wacky socks!
October 15: Hispanic/Latinx Culture Day: Students dress up in attire that represents their Hispanic/LatinX community such as traditional Hispanic/Latinx attire, their favorite Hispanic/Latinx figure on a shirt, shirts that represent their country, etc.(for scholars of Hispanic/Latinx heritage) or attire that represents a Hispanic/Latinx figure or country they admire such as Hispanic/Latinx figure on a shirt, flag or shirts that represent their favorite Hispanic/Latinx country (for all other scholars).
October 18: Pink Mask Day: Students are expected to be in full uniform, wearing a pink mask for breast cancer awareness.
October 19: Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher Day: Students may dress as their favorite teacher, as long as it is not offensive.
October 20: ROCKtober Surprise Wednesdays: Students should be in full uniform. There will be small surprises each day in school provided by staff.
October 21: Crazy Hat Day: Students should be in full uniform except wearing their favorite hat!
October 22: Idiom Day: Students dress up as their favorite idiom (2 peas in a pod, butterflies in my stomach, etc.)
October 25: Spooky Mask Day: Students are expected to be in full uniform wearing a “spooky” mask (ghosts on masks, the word “boo”, etc.)
October 26: Marvel vs DC Day - Students are expected to wear black bottoms (dress pants or black jeans without rips) and can wear a shirt that represents their favorite Marvel or DC character . Students can wear any accessories that describe their favorite Marvel or DC Character (s). Example: Bracelets, socks, mask (s) etc
October 27: ROCKtober Surprise Wednesdays: Students should be in full uniform. There will be small surprises each day in school provided by staff.
October 28: Crazy Hair Day: Students are expected to be in full uniform, and are able to style their hair in any style of their choice.
October 29: Dress Like Your Favorite Character Day: Students wear costumes of their favorite historical figure or book, TV or movie character. All characters must be appropriate for school and no masks other than the PPE approved masks can be worn.
Note: Students must be in full compliance of the BRMS dress code on all days (i.e. no open-toed shoes on any day, no hats (except 10/5) /bonnets /bandannas, no fanny packs, etc. Tuesday is the only day in which students can wear non-black shoes but must adhere to all other BRMS dress code policies. If a student does not meet uniform expectations throughout the month of ROCKtober there will be consequences. It is important for us to have attention to detail with uniform because it is all about unity and helping build a community.
Consequences:
1st Infraction: Revoke ROCKtober privileges for one day
2nd Infraction: Revoke ROCKtober privileges for a week
3rd Infraction: Revoke ROCKtober privileges for the rest of ROCKtober
